Quality Control Manager

The Quality Control Manager is responsible for the overall quality of our products.  The QC Manager is an uncompromising individual with very extensive experience and knowledge in manufacturing large custom-built rotating machinery.  Experience with large gear transmissions, hydraulics, fabrication and machining operations and electronic controls is required.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Develop, implement, and enforce quality procedures designed to ensure that any and all quality flaws in design, materials and workmanship have been identified and certified before products are released for shipment.

Direct the quality control activities required for the manufacture of marine propulsion equipment in accordance with the company’s ISO 9001 Quality Assurance System.

Implement quality policies and procedures, inspection plans, and complete inspection forms to assure quality requirements of the customer and company are met.

Schedule and manage the duties of the inspectors according to the production schedule.

Review inspection data; manage and resolve all non-conforming reports.  Advise all affected department managers, including Quality Assurance, of actions required to prevent the problem from occurring in the future.

Monitor the “Manufacturers Data Books” on the assembly floor and verify that all information and forms (serialization log, leak test reports, hose test reports, etc.) are completed, documented, signed and dated.

Monitor and verify completion of the quality plan.  Verify that all appropriate documentation of classification societies’ certifications is received and available for review.

Manage and ensure satisfactory completion of all product acceptance tests of units, material testing, and onsite surveys with all classifying authorities (ABS, DNV, BV, Lloyd’s, etc.), customers and third parties.

Oversee the Material Tracking Number process and ensure documentation is complete and correct.

Participate in third party audits/assessments, recommend and manage external audits.

Verify the serialization stamping on completed units, and any individual components that require serialization.

Monitor all hard copy inspection forms for all shop jobs and ensure that they are filed in the Quality Control Department.

Interface and coordinate with customers, marine classification societies, and project management to address/resolve quality issues and concerns relative to non-conformance and corrective actions.

Read and interpret manufacturing drawings, shop routers, manufacturing specifications, and quality control documents as they relate to the quality control function.

Perform quality techniques to track, analyze and report on materials, processes and products to ensure they meet the company’s quality standards.

Maintain a safe work environment in accordance with company HSE standards and procedures

Interact and support a broad spectrum of personnel internal and external to the company.  Work effectively and efficiently in both team-based and independent working environments to reduce costs and add value to the organization.

Provide effective management and training of subordinates to achieve desired results.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university;

Familiarity with marine propulsion equipment.

ASQ Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) Certification;

Excellent knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and understanding of basic statistical process control (SPC);

Excellent knowledge of welding procedures and welding defects;

NDE/NDT certification one or more technologies including magnetic particle inspection (MPI), eddy current testing (ECT), liquid penetrant inspection (LPI), ultrasonic testing (UT), and/or radiographic testing (RT);

Experience in compliance with ABS, DNV, LRS, BV, GL, CCS or other marine classification society rules.

Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Quality Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Extensive experience in manufacturing, inspection and repair of rotating equipment and its components.

Ten (10) years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment required, preferably rotating equipment.

Five (5) years of experience as a QC inspector in a metal fabrication or rotating equipment manufacturing environment performing mechanical, dimensional and visual inspections.

Four (4) years of experience as a manager

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the aptitude to write and update standard operating procedures (SOP) and Workplace Instructions (WPI); and

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications software.
